Bishan

Bishan is located in the central region of Singapore with three sub-zones : Upper Thompson, Marymount and Bishan East.
This area used to be known as Kampong San Teneng and Soon Hock Village.

Bishan takes his name from "Bi Shang Ting" or " Large Burial Ground" in Chinese. Originally occupied mostly by Hokkiens, the area was once famous for its sesame oil and noodles.
At the beginning of the new housing projects, people were reluctant to move to Bishan because it was formely a cemetary. This changed quickly.

Today, Bishan is primarily a housing Estate area and caters to upper-middle classes. Prices are high here due to its central location.
