Katong was the place for most of the upper middle class' villas and town houses, from the end of the 19th century till the middle of the 20th century. They had made a fortune with the Far East seaside resorts, and then decided to build villas and mansions along Katong's littoral area.
This preseved area keeps a certain charm with its little 2-storey houses, which could be very colored or simply monochrome.
